An Important Cultural Property (Former Kagawa Prefectural Government Office Building)
Former Kagawa Prefectural Government Office Building is the first government building in Japan to be registered as government building after World War II.Designed by architect Kenzo Tange, the East Wing with its design evoking traditional Japanese architecture, has been highly rated by experts around the world, and in 2021 was selected as one of the “25 Most Important Postwar Architecture in the World” by the New York Times, the only building in Japan to be nominated.More than 60 years later, the East Wing is still popular with local residents and attracts many architecture fans from outside the prefecture as well.
